One of the blog features here at CraftyCardGal.com will be to post listings of current Card Making Challenges.
There are many different types of card challenges to enter. For this initial post, I thought I would share some basic facts about Card Making challenges and how they work.
Types of Challenges:
CAS(e) – Clean and Simple design card challenge. Your design generally needs to be clean and simple, without multiple layers and the card should have open space.
Sketch – A simple sketch of a card layout that you follow for your design.
Mixed Media – A design that will use multiple media types like stamps and watercolor.
Fusion – Option to design based on a sketch or photo or create fusion by using both.
Color Challenges – Design your card based on a specific color palette.
Photo Challenge – Design a card inspired by a photo.
Specific Product or Brand Challenge – To participate you will need to use a specific brand of stamps, dies, etc or you will need to only use stamps, or all watercolor, etc…
Free for All Challenge – Usually there are very few guidelines at all,..just have fun and create.
*Generally, you just need to follow the rules for each individual challenge and make sure to have the main elements the challenge requires whether its certain colors, a specific product brand of stamps or dies, etc..
Submitting your design: Most sites I have seen use a linking tool called ilinkits. It’s very simple to use. You just enter the required fields to link up your entry. Make sure that you link to your card image and blog post, not your main blog page address. You also have the option on many challenges to add their challenge image on your post as a way to link back to them.
Prizes and winner selection: Every challenge is different. Some challenges random select the winner through a random generator tool. Other sites actually look through all the submissions and choose a winner. The winner is announced with a link back to their page and on many occasions, there is a prize offered such as a gift card for stamps or dies or other fun products.
My Favorite Blogs for Card Challenges: Here are my top favorite blogs that host frequent card challenges. I would visit each one, browse their sites, read the challenge rules and look at examples of card designs to get an idea of how this all works. It really helped me learn so I could jump right in for the fun.
